Snow Day

Yes, that's right world travelers be forewarned that the children of Lewisville, Tx did not have school today because of closure due to inclement weather. Now what exactly that inclement weather is or where it is eludes me. I certainly didn't have any thoughts of it this morning when I drove them to school. I did luckily notice that absolutely no one was in the parking lot so I turned around and brought them back home and verified on TV that indeed the schools were closed. I seem to recall that I could never get a snow day when I was a kid yet somehow today's kids are able to get them easily, without the benefit of snow or ice on the ground. I've heard that it might ice tonight. MIGHT. M-I-G-H-T. What the hell? School lets out at 3:00. That's more than enough time to make it home before the arctic conditions make it unliveable outside. I guess I can safely assume that means that there will be no school tomorrow to.

Don't get me wrong. I love my kids. I love spending time with them. I love spending time with them on weekends and properly scheduled times called "holidays". The rest of the time is "me time". Instead I've spent my day constantly fixing them food. What is this where kids can go all day at school with just a sandwich, but at home they can't go five minutes without needing some elaborately prepared meal set before them. Like Ramen or Extra Cheesy Mac n' Cheese. I was saving that for me, you know.

Well, here's the one bright spot in the world that I was able to find today.

You are becoming the esoteric chef, aren't you?

Mmmm. Bacon.

God, kids are so needy. Don't they know the only reason we had them was so they could take care of us in our old age?

Was this Snow Day 2?

You know, I actually remember when you had 3-4 snow days in succession, and we went to see the China exhibit at the Dallas Museum one of those days; and on another day you and I slogged down to the Tom Thumb for such essentials as popcorn and tomato sauce. Really, I think we just had cabin fever and risked the wilds on foot.

Obviously, snow days have a greater impact on parents and leave a larger footprint on their memories.

Lit - I have to look up esoteric. I'll get back to you.

Churlita - I haven't figured out what kids know, except how to use technology and where to find the worst music on the radio.

Lit - Yes it was. This time it's personal.

I remember that. It felt like it was the trek that would keep us alive. I our only chance for getting much needed supplies. I'm kind of disappointed now. I've always thought I saved all of our lives.

You probably did save all of our lives. Parents confined with children 24/3 become a little unbalanced and need a bout with nature to bring them back to their senses. Thank you for making the trip with me.
