And Miles to Go Before I Sleep

It's been an off day for me. I'm running a little late, but on a lot of adrenaline, because I had a last moment job interview. I just stumbled across it yesterday when talking with a vendor that we use for staffing. She asked if I was looking at all, then backed off obviously thinking that she might be crossing some sort of line. I told her not to worry and to go ahead and tell me about what she had going on. So long story short I went in for an interview early this morning before coming in to work today.

Bad decision number one: I stayed up to late last night trying to listen to Open Mic Night. I had some connectivity issues and heard my name mentioned after a decapitation story, but before the baby in the microwave story. It's better to get some rest befoer you stumble into an interview all bleary eyed.

Weird coincidence number one: I had met the guy that I was interviewing with before hand. We had taken a prep class together for a few months. We hadn't really talked, but we recognized each other. Hopefully I didn't make to big an ass of myself in the class. I certainly wasn't quiet the whole time and the teacher and I didn't see eye to eye on a few things.

Weird coincidence number two: We were wearing the same shirt. A canary yellow long sleeve button up. It looked loads better on me. My tie and complexion really sets it off.

Bad decision number two: I wore the same clothes into work. Since it's a newer shirt and I save my better office shoes for interviews, people have been asking me all day if I had a job interview. I tell them yes. They think I'm kidding.

Bad decision number three: I wore my contacts and didn't take any allergy medicine. My left eye is very irritated now and I've had to take out that contact lens and throw it away. I'm now trying to do everything with one eye closed, which is causing it to water even more and is giving me a head ache. People now think that I didn't get the job.

You may need to rethink the numbering system. Bad decision #1 was not keeping a spare contact lens case with solution and a bottle of eye drops in your desk drawer. How you can stand to stare at a computer screen all day and not keep these essentials in your desk I'll never know.

How'd the interview go otherwise?

Goo - I think pretty well. There's a part of me that isn't sure that I'll love the new gig, but there's no part of me that won't be happy to get out of here.

Is it the same career path you are already on or career change?

Cyber D - Same to similar. It's a different type of company and much smaller, but closer to home, better money, and would put me in position to make a move to even better paying jobs in the future.

Yeah, that shirt does look good on you.

Um, I don't remember you being such a baby. You've changed man. What happened to the Dagromm of old who would have slammed into that interview and urinated on the desk? Was that ever even really you?

Yellow is a good power shirt. I'm thinking of geting contacts, but I just don't know ..

Lit - Don't I know it.

P-Man - That was the men's room in the dorm. And those "desks" are called urinals. Sorry we never told you in college. I'm also sorry that your homework always smelled like urine. It was a mean trick. I'll never let Cyber D do it again. Pinky swear.

Eslocura - I like them most of the time, just not today. I wouldn't recommend them for just anybody though. If you've already got perfect sight I would advise steering clear of them all together.

It took me awhile to read this because I'm trying to see through my tear filled eyes that will rapidly go to so dry my contacts almost fall out. Now a poem for the moment:

The pollen is high
My contacts are dry
I wish my coworkers
would die die die

Please try to keep your applause to a minimum.

Outstanding... I want to hear more about it.

I'm glad you specified "button-up shirt" in your post cuz I couldn't tell by the picture - your beard sure has grown out. It could have been a Nehru collar and that is not a good choice for a job interview. You did remember to take the hat off indoors right?

Dagromm you crack me up!! I do wish you luck though ;) And who would have known that you were so fu**ing hot!!!! Grrrr (hmm, never knew I was so good at rolling my "r's")!

Susan - The poetry is awesome. Was that from your vantage point or mine.

Cyber D - No problem I love to talk about me. From the sound of it from my contact we are about to go into negotiations. No promises yet, but it sounds very close.

Plug - I'm a Texas gentleman of course I took my hat off. I even offered the guy a bite of my hotdog.

Tera - I have to admit that I touched up the picture a little to clear up my complexion. I hope you are not too disillusioned.

Sorry I'm so late getting over here. I've been having a monster career builder day myself. Keep us posted about the new gig.

I think it honestly works for either of us right now. Someone would meet their end today if it weren't for the fact that it's almost over.

sorry i'm late too, worked 12-9 and i'm working my way through.

kiddo, awesome poem. i love it.

dags, the interview is over. no point in stressing about it now and do you really care what the current batch of co-workers thinks?? didn't think so.

Fringes - Careerbuilder and Monster are regular tours on my computer here at work. I check them about three times a week.

Susan - I've been whittling my shank furiously all week. That sounds really dirty doesn't it?

Heather - I think I'm cool on the wait right now. Come the end of the day I'll be feeling differently I'm sure.
