Fool Me Once Shame on Me, Fool Me Twice.......Fuck!!!!

Okay, I wasn't really fooled. I saw it coming even through the protestations of the higher ups in the company. Regardless, for the second time in three years I was laid off from my job. In total somewhere around twenty folks were let go on Friday from the small company where I worked. Which of course answers the question, "What's worse than being pulled into an office and told that your job is being eliminated?" The answer of course is being pulled into an office and told that your job is being eliminated while dressed as Frank 'N Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. If you can imagine watching person after person dressed in cowboy garb, afro wigs, and characters from the Wizard of OZ walking dejectedly out of the office than you can pretty much imagine what my Halloween was like.

So, I'm a professional job seeker now. Wish me luck. If you wish to call me about it, I'd appreciate you calling me at home rather than on my cell. My cell's been getting blown up the last few days. I'm pretty popular.

Oh my god. I'm so sorry to hear that. Why would they wait until Halloween to do that? It's so mean. I hope you find a job at a way better company making a ton more money.

Thanks Churlita. I agree I think it was a pretty shitty day to do it on. I assume they wanted to cancel benefits that day. As it is I'm fairly certain everyone will have benefits for another month, because I was the only one that new how to cancel benefits and since it wasn't done that day they'll stay active at least for another month.

That sucks! I can't even try and be funny about it

Well, yeah. That sucks.

On the upside, cuts in our offices won't be announced for another two weeks. They may be waiting until just before Christmas to lay me off. I've got another two whole weeks of guaranteed employment.

Daggs--sorry to hear about that. Let us know if we can be of assistance. I can send bread to cheer you and cut the grocery bill. I can also help pad your resume.

Chill asked me to add, "That's what you get for bragging about voting for Obama on the internet. Corporate retaliation has begun!"

He'd harass you himself, but right now he is riding the 7-year-old about brushing and flossing before bed. She's actively earning every harangue.

For whatever it's worth:

Do not sit on your tail looking woebegone. You're too smart and talented to be put down.

Take whatever you can get quickly and keep the spirits and cash flow moving.

Look for the good job---and it may take a long time---and sink it. Just don't sit around waiting for it.

You want to call me or shall I call you? Or just keep my mouth shut?

And, yeah, Jaz, send bread. It would only be good and a bright spot.

Dude, condolences--but I think things are looking up. Let's see what the stock market does tomorrow in reaction to the regime change. Maybe if confidence grows, then companies will start hiring again--and not be slow about it!

Hold yer head up, Dagromm! Your blogname is that of a warrior's!

My only piece of advice is steal as many office supplies as possible on your way out. Top marks for finding a way of fitting a color printer into your briefcase.

And while your at it, my wife could use a new three-hole-punch for our home office.

So sorry to hear that. And you know what, you should write up your experience and sell that. Some office show - like 30 rock or something - would have a field day with that experience.

You know what though - even in a bad economy there's always jobs out there for intelligent people, which you are one.

I'm in agreement with Nore. I think you need to pitch this as next season's Halloween episode of The Office: All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go.

Or All Dressed Up and Told to Blow

I thought that was the subtitle on the Monica Lewinsky bio pic.

I thought she did it of her own volition?

I've been saying for years that you should be a comedy writer. Maybe this is a sign ... Hmm. SOrry to hear about this sucky turn of events.

Damn, I thought I commented here! Uh hmm...anyways, I am sorry to hear about that. I wish you luck in securing something else...they say when one door closes, another one opens. Perhaps one will open to greener pastures :)

I'm sorry to hear about this happening. I hope you find something much, much better that allows you to make a ton of money, travel when you want and work from home the rest of the time.
