Soccer
The soccer season is back and I am happy. Although we didn't get the result we were looking for in the first game I saw several promising things. Hopefully I can keep the girls from having too many costly brain farts and we can do better from here on out.
I know that I have probably watched more youth soccer than 99% of Americans. I actually enjoy watching it and seeing what level the kids are at. So I post this video knowing that it might only appeal to a very very small segment of people out there. This is a six year old kid in France that is amazing. He does great cutbacks, pullbacks, rainbows, step overs, dekes and more. If you've ever watched your young child playing for a team at this age just be glad he/she didn't face this kids' team.

High school soccer starts in a couple of weeks here. I'm excited for the free entertainment.
It's already started here and there are some really good teams in my area.
I watched my son play at this age, and I'm definitely glad he didn't face this kid's team; otherwise he might never have hung in there till high school and earned a letter jacket. Whew!
How many teams does this kid play on? It looked like three different team colors to me. Does he take dance? He's sure got some moves.
holy wow! i'd be ~very~ suprised if this kid doesn't already have scouts watching him and waiting (im)patiently for him to get old enough to sign.
Lit - Your son would have known enough to knock this kid on his ass after being repeatedly abused by him.
Heather - Actually he does already have very big soccer clubs watching him. I wonder if this kid goes to school at all.
I think this kid would be a nightmare to play with. On the one hand, all the drilling does seem to have paid off--the kid knows how and when to use these moves in game play--on the other hand, we don't see him passing (without turning the ball over to the opposing team) and we never see any scoring coming out of this. I worry the other kids on his team don't get to do much.
This kid just underscores for me the fact that few people in this world would suck at coaching sports as much as I would. (Just as few people suck at playing sports as much as I do). I'm pretty sure my philosophy would not help a team win--that everyone should get to play, feel a complete part of the team, and play to have fun, rather than just to win.
I'd have a team that felt warm and fuzzy at practice, would never develop fantastic skills if they had a particular talent ,and would feel like crap after losing each game because eventually they would figure out everyone else values winning at least once in a while!
I'm sorry I can't get excited about soccer, but glad you're a good coach...
