For Those Who Want to Know

I understand that a number of you have been curious why Q has been so quiet as of late. He hasn't posted much on his blog and hasn't left many comments on the blogs of others. Well I thought I would enlighten those who aren't as close to the Q. He has of late taken to involving himself in politics. It has damn near consumed all of his time and resources.

You might ask what has led him to this. The Presidential race? A current opening in his local government? Nope. To Q it is something much more serious than that. It's bigger than whether Iraq is ruled West Coast Muslims or East Coast Muslims. He says it's about oppression and certain inalienable rights that are being tread upon. I don't want to go into the whole thing now, but I'm attaching this link for whoever wants more insight.

I'll also attach this pic of Q rallying the people to his cause.

Ha. I love that they call it a pole tax.

I hate to get serious in this blog, but after working with abused women for so many years I find it hard to criticize the fact lawmakers are seeking ways to fund rape crisis centers. I am not certain this is the best way to go about it, but I am equally uncertain that this is bad.

Someone please enlighten me as to why a tax on this industry would be an affront to the right to express oneself? The tax is not saying the club is bad or the patrons or employees should change any behavior. Is this different than any other luxury tax that affects Americans?

And noregrets, I also like the term, "pole tax." I kind of like, "tassles for tots," too. Maybe a college could start a program to encourage parents to save for their children's education using that phrase, so we can snicker about the other application?

Nore - You would have thought that the Polish would have been up in arms about this.

Jaz - I don't have any problems with the cause that the money is going to help support. Heck I'm petitioning for my home town to invite one of these establishments now just so that we can generate more revenue for the shelters.

As far as other luxury taxes, I would be curious what those are. I don't think that I've ever had a luxury before to pay a tax on, so I'm not sure what qualifies. It occurs to me that the people that can afford the luxuries usually get tax breaks not the other way around.

Jaz, hours later I realize you weren't being sarcastic when you agreed that you like the term pole tax and then said they should have a tassle tax for education. The problem was, initially I thought you meant the tassles they cover nipples with.

Jaz & Nore, I LOVE the double entendre in Tassles for Tots

So do I give my tax to the government before I pay for the table dance, so I only give the stripper $17 or do I just add it on and give her $23?

NoRegrets said...

See, the strippers will now be government workers. But they won't use the regular strippers. They will actually get government workers to strip.

perhaps q can look into whether or not he can claim the extra $5 at the door as a charitable donation.

g, the $5 is added onto the door fee.

nor, that sounds like a surefire way to close all the strip joints down. if they do that who will strip on bank holidays and weekends?

noregrets, I guess you figured out I was referring to tassles on graduation caps.

Dagromm--a luxury tax is the additional tax on items such as yachts, limos, high-end cars (Mercedes, Rolls, Fiari, etc), cigarettes, alcohol, and gasoline. They are taxed at a higher rate than other retail items.

Chill explained the economic and political ramifications--that the politicians can convince the naive (like me) that they care about social issues while actually working to decrease the number of patrons and thereby effectively shutting down some establishments. He also stated one of the key politicians involved actually runs one of the shelters that will be benefiting from the increased revenue. And that if they were really serious about raising money for the cause they would have instituted a tax that would have affected more than only 150 businesses in the entire state of Texas.

So, I hope that Dagromm and others are successful in lobbying for more such businesses to open, using the argument that it would benefit abused women across the state. Personally, it matters not to me whether the woman dancing in Dagromm's lap is a bimbo or a college grad, but I am thinking Mrs. Dagromm would have a lot to say about it either way!

Goo said...

As long as she's got tassles on her tots, I don't think anyone is going to be thinking anything other than "bimbo".

jaz said...

Goo, as for the gentleman who owns the lap in question, I think you can leave it at he's probably not thinking. At least not while his lap is occupied.

At least he's spending his time on a good cause.

I always figured that the two tassels signified that the dancers each had two degrees. Since they were all working their way through college it just made sense.

Q is currently on my shit list...and can you hike those pants up any higher? Geesh!

Dagromm said...

Jaz - I disagree. I think Mr. Lap is thinking, "Thank God i'm helping those in need right now."

Churlita - he always thinks that he is.

Chillax - That's what Asia and Diamond had told me.

Tera - Mine too and that's why he wears the suspenders.

Chill--I am guessing you met said dancers before the wedding, right? And they have quit coming to your work for special discounts to college students?

I wonder if they know how cold 2 degrees is?

NoRegrets said...

It's very nipply.

Guess their could be the danger of spontaneous detasseling?
